Update Your Goals For The Rest of The Year

If you had some of your 2020 goals interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, you’re not alone. Everybody had to pause at least some of their plans due to the uncertainty of the circumstances. This does not mean you won’t achieve your goals at all this year — they just may need a few adjustments. For example, perhaps you aren’t on track to double your gross commission, but you may have set yourself up to efficiently implement a remote work system for your real estate team.

Mid-year is the time to check in with your goals. This year, your check-in might feel like more of a rewrite, or maybe even a complete makeover depending on your situation. However, even though your goals may change, they can still take you to new heights in your business.

Before you update your goals, take a moment to get your head in the game. To reframe your mindset following a difficult situation, keep these tips in mind:

  • Eliminate excuses. Think less about why you can’t move forward, and more about what can be done to keep things moving right now.
  • Ditch the bad habits. Tough times often reintroduce us to a few bad habits. Leave them behind you and start fresh moving forward.
  • Seize the day. Don’t let negativity consume your time. Focus on the now, and don’t put off things that are important to you.

Once you regain this perspective, it’s time to evaluate and create your new beginning. This is your chance to decide what you would do differently if you were starting over. Write down the answers to these questions and craft your new goals plan.

  • What is working right now? Focus on the successful parts of your business that bring you joy. These are the elements you wish to devote more time to — whatever you love the most.
  • What direction do I want my life and business to go in? Determine your ultimate goal and the time frame you want to take to achieve it. Keep in mind, that time frame may have changed, but your ultimate goal can still become reality.
  • What small steps can I take to get there? Decide who you want on this journey, items to remove or add to your schedule and habits and routines that need to change. These are the action items you can do in order to reach that goal.

Before you update your goals, take a moment to get your head in the game. To reframe your mindset following a difficult situation, keep these tips in mind. This year, plenty of things have happened that are outside of our control. However, we can control how they impact our attitudes. Use this time to update your goals and get your real estate business moving again, and you’ll come out even stronger on the other side.
