What’s Your Real Estate Leadership Style?

Being a great leader is harder than it looks! As a broker, owner or manager, you are responsible for guiding your team toward success. Agents look to you for wisdom and advice on how to navigate the market, real estate lead generation and other elements of running a successful business.

Despite our best efforts, nobody is perfect all the time. There are a few traps that every leader fall into occasionally. Here are a few risky leadership styles to avoid:

  • The People Pleaser — You just want others to like you, which can lead to trouble. Focus on earning your team’s respect first, and the “like” will follow.
  • No Matter What — When the going gets tough, you have your team work harder to get the job done “no matter what,” sacrificing work-life balance.
  • The Helping Hand — You love to help people, even those who may not want it. In many cases, this handholding impedes learning.
  • The Martyr — You believe that you’re the only one who can get the job done right, signaling a lack of faith in your team.
  • The Buddy — You try to befriend your team as one of the group. This blurs professional boundaries and makes it hard for the team to take you seriously.

Ever noticed yourself falling into one of these leadership traps? It happens! Next time you catch yourself in one of these patterns, move forward by reconnecting with the qualities of a strong leader:

  • Set goals and priorities.
  • Communicate effectively, providing encouragement and accountability.
  • Coordinate and execute plans successfully.
  • Lead by example.
  • Acknowledge and reward the team to help all win together.

Oh, by the way, there’s also another sure-fire way to lead your team toward success: providing real estate training. By offering real estate training courses in your office, you demonstrate a commitment to agents’ success. As their profits increase, so do yours!

Buffini & Company has several real estate training programs for agents at all career levels. Get Buffini Certified to lead these trainings in your office and lead your team to the top!
