Real Estate Professionals: You Can Control Things More Than You Think

Real Estate Professionals: You Can Control Things More Than You Think

It’s a well-worn cliche but one we tend to forget when things appear to be going sideways in the world. You can only control what you can control. Not only is that sentiment true, but when you come right down to it, there’s more you can control than you may think!

Your Work Ethic

For a long time, the real estate industry was flooded with agents who, because of the hot market, were finding success. Now that things have swung in the other direction, many are fleeing.

Real estate experts predict that 4 million homes will be sold this year. According to the National Association of REALTORS®, nearly 90% of all buyers and sellers still rely on a real estate professional to help them with their transactions. So that leaves plenty of opportunities for those who are willing to put in the hard work.

Take a deep look at your business. Do you have a solid business plan? Is your budget in shape — do you have provisions for ensuring your taxes, fees and expenses are covered? Do you have an emergency savings account that would cover at least 5-6 months of expenses if needed?

How about your database? Do you have systems in place so you can stay in touch with your A+ clients and keep your pipeline filled with leads?

If all this seems overwhelming, consider working with an experienced real estate coach. They will help you to get and stay on track.

Your Reputation

When it comes to social media, be careful what you share. You should only be posting items that you know a) are truthful b) you could back up with info if needed and c) you wouldn’t be ashamed to have any family member or friend to see. It may not seem fair, but people will judge you on what they see you post. You’ve chosen to be a professional — that means you must present as one all the time.

Your Professional Growth

Are you staying up to date with all the changes in the industry, including technological advances like ChatGPT and AI? It may seem overwhelming but by starting small and working your way up, you’ll soon wonder how you ever worked without these tools.

For both new and experienced agents, it’s imperative that you keep your fundamental skills sharp. Buffini has many real estate training programs and events (both in-person and virtual) that will help you stay on top of your game. Invest in one or more of these — not only will your skills improve but so will your level of professionalism.

Your Personal Growth

Books, webinars and podcasts offer a multitude of ways to improve your mindset, confidence and overall health. A great place to start is Brian Buffini’s podcast, “It’s a Good Life.” Each week Brian talks to thought leaders from around the world on topics such as goal setting, overcoming challenges and managing your money. Past guests have included real estate investor and entrepreneur Ryan Pineda, Bert Jacobs, the founder of the Life is Good apparel company, legendary football coach Lou Holtz, actor/author Matthew McConaughey and many more.

Be sure to have a notebook handy — you’ll want to jot down the many “Brian-isms” he shares as well as the books and resources he and his guests recommend.
