The most effective leaders don’t succeed alone – they mobilize the talents of their entire team! On a recent episode of “It’s a Good Life,” bestselling author and world-renown coach Keith Ferrazzi shared how to elevate leadership to teamship and achieve phenomenal results. Here are some of the main takeaways:
Who’s on your team?
Keith says we all need to create a group of people around us who won’t let us fail. The first step is to identify who’s on your team. This can include not just direct reports, but the broader ecosystem of people who contribute to your success, such as referral partners, co-creators and even prospects and clients. You don’t have to pay someone to be your teammate – the most important thing is to cultivate a relationship among those individuals so that you’re collaborating to achieve while also pushing each other higher.
What’s your social contract?
If you want a high-performing team, you must encourage a culture of candor and transparency, not conflict avoidance. Examine the social contract of how you’re currently working with people and then consider how it can be improved. Practices like pre-meeting assignments to encourage a more open dialogue can deepen relationships, for example. When people know what to expect or are asked questions in advance of a meeting, they are often far more willing to be frank, which can lead to phenomenal growth and success.
Get agile!
Monthly agile sprints are a great way to consistently achieve more. Set a target, work hard to reach it and then take the time to evaluate everything with your team. What worked well? Where did you struggle? What do you need to change to improve? Keep doing this and you’ll always achieve your goals. If you simply put your head down and keep working the same old way, you can totally miss your target.
Don’t go it alone! Surround yourself with a great team and you’ll always achieve your goals. To learn more, listen to the latest episode of “It’s a Good Life.”
