If you want to live the good life, the age-old principles of faith, hope and love are more important than ever before. In today’s challenging world, we need faith to sustain us and we need hope for something to look forward to. Most importantly, perhaps, we need love to get the most out of life.
Be good to yourself
When you live a life that’s devoted to serving others, it’s all too easy to forget to take care of yourself. Are you supremely patient with other people, but impatient with and unkind to yourself? If you get angry and constantly keep a critical list of all your shortcomings, you need to examine your thought processes, either with a friend, a counselor or a coach. Remember, you have to love yourself before you can become capable of loving others!
Be good to those who are most important to you
When we neglect ourselves, the people closest to us are very often next in line for the same treatment. It can be quite easy to be good to others from a distance – your neighbors or work colleagues, for example – but it can be much harder to treat those in your inner circle with authentic care and devotion. Living the good life means not taking your nearest and dearest for granted. Be patient and kind, don’t keep a scorecard, don’t dishonor and always be slow to anger. That’s what love truly is.
Be a good life ambassador
If you’re pursuing the good life, you should share your journey with other people so they can begin their own. Living what you believe is the best way to become a good life ambassador. Reach out, connect with and inspire others. If you know someone who’s experiencing difficulty and wants change, for example, why not share a helpful book or a podcast like “It’s a Good Life” with them? An encouraging word can really give someone hope that things can change for the better
A famous biblical passage ends with the words, “Three things remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” If you want to live the good life, you must love yourself, love others and be a good life ambassador. To learn more, listen to the latest episode of “It’s a Good Life”.
