How to Reach Your Potential

In my years traveling throughout North America to speak to millions of real estate professionals and small business owners, one question we’ve continuously asked our audience is “How many of you, by a show of hands, possess untapped potential?” Usually, every hand in the room goes up.

How about you? Do you have talent you’re not tapping into and using to drive your business to the next level and achieve success? Get the most out of your talent with these five strategies.

  1. Get a Coach. The word “coach” is derived from the mode of transportation that traces its origins to the Hungarian word for “carriage.” It later became slang for a tutor who “carries” a student through an exam.

Nowadays, a coach is someone who moves you from one place to another, whether it’s to improve your athletic performance, help you take charge of your finances or take your business to the next level. There are coaches for everything—learning coaches, spiritual coaches, real estate coaches, life coaches, etc.

A Coach, like our full-time, in-house Certified Business Coaches at Buffini & Company, will help you identify your talents and guide you to where you want to go. They’ll help you reach your goals by holding you accountable, encouraging you to face your challenges and keeping you on track. If you don’t have a Coach, it’s never too late to get one.

  1. Find a Mentor. On my journey to real estate success, I can directly point to seasoned agents who helped me navigate the challenges they had already overcome. They were major catalysts in my professional development. Someone who has already gone down the road you want to travel can help you tap into and use your talents to reach your goals.

Find a few successful people to speak with; people you admire and strive to emulate. They’ll be honored that you sought them out for their advice and will be happy to assist you along your journey.

  1. Tap into your strengths. When you know how you’re wired, you’ll be able to maximize your natural gifts and develop the skills you need to achieve your life and business goals. Once you identify your natural abilities and core motivations, you’ll can embrace your strengths and identify your weaknesses.

Brian recently interviewed branding expert, Sally Hogshead for his podcast, It’s a Good Life. If you want to learn more about your strengths, have a listen to the episode.

  1. Do what you love. The word “passion” originates from the Latin word “passio,” which means “suffering, enduring.” What a paradigm shift for me—I had thought it only had positive, happy and enthusiastic connotations. But, it makes sense that it would entail suffering. I’m extremely passionate about every aspect of real estate: buying, selling, owning and speaking about it! and that passion has helped me endure many challenges and setbacks along the way. With any worthwhile pursuit, there are going to be barriers; having passion will enable you to see past them and use your talents.
  1. Focus on your goals. You need focus to get the most out of your talent. Focus means

Focus
On
Course
Until
Success

It means you commit to the necessary activities until you succeed. Remember, as Brian says, “You can only control activities; you can’t control results.”

When you focus on your goals, obstacles that once appeared insurmountable become hurdles you can navigate. When your eye is on the prize and not on the challenge, you will feel more free and encouraged to use your talents.

When you develop the ability to tap into your talent store, you ‘ll see great gains in both your business and personal relationships.
