Whether we realize it or not, many of us suffer with limiting beliefs that hold us back and affect our success. These limiting beliefs, often the result of pain experienced during childhood and then internalized, can really stop us from fulfilling our true potential. Here’s how to combat these beliefs, take positive action and accomplish your goals:

Recognize the symptoms

When you’re living a limited life, you feel like you’re stuck in a rut. You’re frustrated by a lack of growth, consumed by feelings of worry and emptiness and lacking in motivation and energy. You also have certain thoughts, beliefs and attitudes about yourself, such as ‘I’m not good enough,’ ‘I’m not cut out for this,’ or ‘The world is against me.’ With a limited mindset like this, your world can get very small and you can miss out on all the experiences that could contribute to your growth and success. You’re in a prison of your own making – and only you can make the key to escape.

Rediscover, don’t reinvent

To live a life without limits, you don’t need to reinvent yourself. Total reinvention may sound exciting, but it’s actually an exhausting and often counterproductive circular exercise. For example, consider someone who’s having a midlife crisis and begins to make impulsive and disjointed decisions or negative changes. They don’t attain inner meaning or fulfillment; instead they can become a cliché, doomed to repeating the same mistakes, over and over. Instead of trying to reinvent yourself, make rediscovering yourself a priority. What innate gifts and abilities do you possess that you’ve forgotten or ignored? Your past always leaves clues! If you want to make a change in your life, take the time to reflect on the talents you had as a child. A great way to get started is to take the free REALStrengths assessment.

Begin the journey

When you have limiting beliefs, friends with limiting beliefs or environments that buy into limiting beliefs, you stay small. To start your journey of rediscovery, ask yourself the following questions:

  • When have you felt at your best physically?
  • When have you felt at your best mentally?
  • When have you felt at your best emotionally?
  • When have you felt at your best spiritually?
  • When have you felt at your best in your business?

The key thing to consider is what was different then and who was helping you? To learn more, listen to the latest episode of “It’s a Good Life.”

At Buffini & Company, we help people to rediscover their gifts and abilities and utilize their innate strengths to achieve their goals. That’s why our average client outperforms their competition by a factor of 10 to 1! Take a free business consultation today and find out more.
