Throw a Client Party and Watch Your Business Grow!

Hosting a client party is a great way to not only show your appreciation to your best clients, but it’s also a way to comfortably ask for referrals from them. For those who have never done so, it can seem daunting at first. Follow these tips to get started and you’ll soon have a database filled with warm referred leads.

Start Simple

A client party doesn’t even technically need to be a “party,” in fact, it can be as simple as inviting someone to join you at a local coffee spot. Take a look around — where do you like to spend your time? Pick a date and time and determine how many people you want to invite.

Next, review your database. Who are your best clients that you would like to get more leads from? Send out invites and follow up with them. If your goal is to have 10 clients say yes, you may have to actually invite many more in order to get that number.

Be sure to tell them exactly why you are inviting them. An example could be, “Since I work by referral and have great clients like you, I don’t have to waste time chasing cold leads. Not only do I have more time to devote to my clients during the transaction, but I also have more time to host fun events like this one!”

Encourage your clients to bring a few friends as well who may be interested in working with you. (Just be sure to get RSVPs ahead of time so you have enough food and space.)

Network With Other Business Owners

Why not partner up with another business or two and share the work and expenses? Take a look at your business-to-business database. Who do you refer a lot of clients to? An example could be co-hosting an event with a mortgage lender, a home inspector or attorney.

Another idea is to host a meeting for your fellow business professionals.

Buffini Member Sally Morrow held a breakfast meeting for the associated professionals she works with on transactions. Twenty-one of the 27 people she invited attended. For less than $400, she provided an opportunity to not only show her appreciation to them but also offered a great opportunity for everyone to connect, setting the stage for future referrals.

Trust Your Yourself and Your Database

Buffini Member Wendy Griffis noted she was “so nervous” before her first client party and wondered if anyone would show up.

“It wasn’t a huge party, it was a small group of people, maybe less than 20, but I was so happy that some people came. We had a really great time,” she recalled. “I left feeling energized believing that ‘Okay, I could see how if I deepen these relationships over time, this is going to pay off.’”

That was the case for another Buffini Member, Katie Griffin Ross, who hosted a Thanksgiving Pie “Reverse Pop-By” and “Pictures with Santa” event for her clients. Katie’s costs upfront were approximately $1,200. The result? Not only did her clients have a great time, but she also ended up with 4 referrals within 2 weeks of the event.
