Even couples who have been together for decades have probably never spent this much time with their spouse at home. To keep the relationship happy, you’ll want to make sure you both get enough “me time” to reset and unwind. At the same time, you’ll also want to schedule time for a weekly date night so the two of you can shake up the routine and have some fun together!
Here are five date night ideas to start with:
Living Room Dance Lessons
There are plenty of online dance lessons being offered right now. Many studios offer classes on demand — consider looking into local dance studios first to support small businesses. Once you’ve signed up, make a night of it at home! Push the couches and coffee table aside and broadcast the video lesson on your television for a more immersive experience. Whether you go for salsa, swing or even hip hop, this online experience is sure to create fun memories and leave you both with a new skill to show off once it’s safe to get back out on the dance floor!
A Night at The Movies
With many movie theaters closed right now, streaming services have picked up some new releases for you to watch from the comfort of your home. Browse Amazon Prime or other movie streaming platforms to see what films are available, and decide which one you and your spouse want to see. Heat up some popcorn, dim the lights and transform your living room into a theater. If you’ve got a little more time on your hands, consider marathoning a few movies you haven’t had time to get to, or a popular film series you’ve been wanting to start.
A Cook Off
Get creative with this one! Challenge each other to make a dish using only the ingredients in your pantry. Have a taste test at the end to see whose dish reigns supreme — but remember to also dole out some points for creativity! Alternatively, you can take a page from the show “Nailed It,” and find an elaborate recipe online to recreate. This is a fun way to have some friendly competition and get some tasty treats out of it.
Picnic Time
Create a picnic spread to enjoy on the living room floor, in the backyard or on the patio. If health orders in your state allow, consider taking your picnic to the park! Lay out your blanket, arrange your picnic buffet and enjoy some fresh air at a healthy social distance from others. Consider a theme for your picnic food selection: brunch in Paris, tapas on a terrace in Spain, or anything else you and your partner have wanted to try!
Dinner Party
Even though you can’t do a date night at your favorite restaurant just yet, you can recreate the experience at home! Get dressed up as though you were doing a night on the town. Light candles and pull out the nice dishware. If your favorite restaurant is open, order some to-go meals. Otherwise, recreate the dinner you would have ordered, whether it’s a hearty steak platter or a delectable pasta dish. Just make sure that when it’s time to enjoy the meal, you and your spouse are dressed up and ready for your dinner-date night.
Although the idea of a date night at home may sound awkward at first, it’s a great way to lighten the mood at home between you and your spouse. So this Friday night, get the kids in their rooms a little early, and design your perfect at-home date experience. Whether you watch the latest movie releases or learn to salsa in the living room, you’ll create an experience you and your significant other won’t forget!
