5 Ideas for Virtual Family Fun

After weeks of being inside with your family, you may be running short on things to do. As part of a commitment to social distancing to stop the spread of COVID-19, the global community has come out with some impressive and creative ways to stay connected and to experience the world at a safe distance.

If you’ve got a full house, here are five ideas for virtual family fun curated by our social media community!

Explore a National Park

Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you have to miss out on camping.

Pitch a tent in your yard, family room or your child’s bedroom, and dust off your sleeping bags. Prepare a campfire-inspired meal. A foil-pack that you can toss on the grill or in the oven works, or even simple taco bowls with rotisserie chicken, canned beans, shredded lettuce or cabbage, chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, shredded cheese, and dressing of choice. Don’t forget the stove-top smores!

Next, gather around your internet device and experience one of five National Parks by taking a beautifully-curated virtual tour. You can see the Hawai’i Volcanos, Bryce Canyon, or even go underwater at the Dry Tortugas in Florida. Each journey is interactive so that you can explore what interests you the most.

Visit Another Country

If you love to travel and feel like your wings are clipped — remember that it is temporary, and you can scope your next trip from home.

A favorite itinerary is this 20-minute tour of England. To make it extra-special, enjoy a traditional afternoon tea with savory finger sandwiches and delicate cookies served on special dishes.

As another idea, you can use Google Maps 360 and go just about anywhere — even the Colosseum.

Take a Museum Tour

Staying safe at home doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the beauty of art. In addition to tours, several museums are offering online activities for the whole family.

For the traditional art-lover, visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York or the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. If music strikes a chord, The GRAMMY Museum‘s “Museum From Home” offers public programs and exhibits online and The Metropolitan Opera is offering free nightly opera streams.

Have a Dance Party

Home is the best place to try new dance moves. The simplest way to do this is to clear some space, turn down the lights and turn up the tunes! If you’d like a little guidance, follow along with the online series, Conga Kids, and their “Social Dance for Social Distancing.”

Head to the Beach

Summer is nearly here. Just because you can’t go to the beach today, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the sun and see the surf.

One great way to start the day is with a beachy sunrise using this live feed from beaches all across the United States. Same goes for sunset!

These are uncertain times, however, this free access to some of the world’s greatest treasures will make lasting memories for you and your family. Stay safe and healthy.
