What’s Your Superpower? Hope

When we originally craft our dreams, we’re hopeful about achieving them. We construct goals and plans around them to improve our chances of success. Then, along the way, we experience a setback or two, we miss a milestone, an outcome doesn’t quite live up to our expectations, we begin to complain that we’re not reaching our goals fast enough – we want it NOW – and then we become so wrapped up in our current circumstances that we don’t plan for the future, we jump from trend to trend instead of sticking with the tried-and-true basics, we step on and over people on the way to the top…

Then, we begin to lose hope. We get stuck in the muck of negativity and begin to wonder who the heck we thought we were to even have those dreams in the first place. We’ve all been there at one time or another. To bust out of our funk, we have to rely on our superpower – hope – to help us find our golden ticket.

You gotta have hope
Hope is essential, whether you want to achieve your dreams to reach a milestone along the way. It’s the confident expectation that you’ll achieve what you put your mind to. Often, we don’t have hope because we don’t want to be disappointed. How often have you heard, or even said, “Don’t get your hopes up.” What an awful thing to say! Yet we say it anyway so that we won’t feel let down if it doesn’t happen.

Hope allows you to see the possibilities when negativity is all that surrounds you. It provides a sense of anticipation of an exciting thing to come. This anticipation has momentum and provides a surge of motivation. Hope gives you the confidence to take the high road, even when it seems more satisfying in the short-term to get down in the mud.

If you want to achieve your dreams, you have to have hope.

So, what hijacks your dreams and diminishes hope? Bad habits! Listen to the latest episode of “It’s a Good Life” and learn about the bad habits that may prevent you from achieving your dreams. Click here to listen.
