Rebecca Worthington, a broker from Prince George, British Columbia, first learned of Buffini & Company in January 2012 through the owners of her brokerage, Team Powerhouse Realty. “The owners, Mark McVey and Jay Rockwell, believed in Buffini & Company’s business philosophy and wanted to share it with the office,” she explains. “I have been loving it ever since!”
As a mother of four daughters, Rebecca tries to do it all: be a good business leader, mother, and wife. “Building my business while balancing a full family life has always been the greatest challenge,” she says. (She received her license when her youngest daughter was 18 months old.) Since then, she’s been working hard to become intentional about each area of her life.
What helps the most? Time blocking. “Time blocking brings sanity and structure to my days and weeks,” she explains. With her time accounted for, she’s able to focus her attention on her priorities without being distracted throughout the day.
While time blocking gave structure to her days, goal setting gave her something to aim for. “Goal setting has helped me set realistic goals, which I’ve been able to surpass every year for the past six years,” she says.
It was because of her ambitious goals that she came to the attention of Brian Buffini. He met her at the Anaheim Success Tour in early 2018 and she shared that she had just met her goal of being able to send her entire family to Disney, paying cash for the trip.
“It was at the 2012 Turning Point [now Success Tour] in Vancouver I dreamed of taking the family to Disney,” she said. By the time she achieved her goal, six years later, her youngest daughter had reached the age at which she could truly enjoy the “magic” of the Magic Kingdom. “It was more about being patient with the timing of the goal. We were diligent in saving the cash for this opportunity,” she explained.
Staying true to the Referral System
It’s been Rebecca’s commitment to the Referral System that’s allowed her to achieve her goals. In addition to reviewing her notes from Peak Producers each year, she also participates in the Blitz. The timing of the Blitz allows her to leverage the seasonality of the real estate business and focus on starting the year right.
“It gives me that push at the beginning of the year to get the momentum going in my business and put me in the right mindset. It helps me avoid ‘winter drift’ and sets the tone of my whole year by continually laying out proactive, lead-generation activities,” she explains.
“I lean into the system of calls, notes, and Pop-Bys to run my business,” she says. She enjoys writing personal notes and delivering Pop-Bys the most. “I do Pop-By blitzes, which works best for my schedule, and deliver 30 within two or three weeks,” she says.
Although she admits she still gets nervous when she delivers those first few Pop-Bys, before long she wonders what all the worry was about and has fun. Writing notes comes naturally to her as well. “I’ve been writing notes since I was a kid so that comes really naturally also,” she explains.
“Before I started with Buffini & Company, I sold 10 homes and made about $25,000 in commissions,” she explains. She didn’t have an assistant and wasn’t sure how to grow her business. “Buffini & Company gave me the tools and know-how to just go out and do it!” she says.
In 2017, she sold more than 44 homes, won her first MLS award and was one of the top three producers in her office, which she’s been for the last few years. She also has an assistant to help her stay organized.
“Working by referral has been the best thing for me, my business and my family life,” she says. Additionally, the system has given her the confidence to say “no” and build the boundaries that allow her to take time off and enjoy her family.
What’s her advice for someone who feels as if they’re not making progress? “Just keep pushing forward. You will see results,” she advises. Typically, she begins to see results about six to eight weeks after making a connection, although she’ll often see results even sooner.
“Lean into what comes naturally to you, as that comes across to your clients. For me, I’m better at Pop-Bys and notes than I am with calls, and I enjoy it more,” she says. While she still calls her clients to follow-up, she focuses on wowing them with her Pop-Bys and personal notes.
Looking ahead to more ambitious goals
Now that Rebecca can check Disney off her list, she has her eyes set on more challenging goals. “The goal list is long,” she says. In addition to wanting to take her entire family to Buffini & Company’s MasterMind Summit, she and her husband would like to buy another business within the next five years.
“I want to fine-tune my real estate systems and business to a greater level of excellence, sell 47 homes this year and hit $290,000 in commissions,” she explains. Although she’s set ambitious goals for her business, her top priority is her family. “Most importantly, I really want to spend quality time with my family and share more amazing experiences with my daughters as they are all growing up so fast!” she says.
Working by referral has helped Rebecca succeed in her business and enjoy more time with her family. “There is so much support from Buffini & Company. Everything is laid out beautifully. Just lean into all Buffini & Company offers and watch your business flourish! It’s really the best way to work,” she says. “As you build your business by referral, you’ll be amazed how it builds on itself. It’s like compounding interest in your business. It makes for a very nice community of clients that you are happy to serve, interact with and help.”
