People who live remarkable and fulfilling lives have some traits in common. In a recent podcast, world-renown tech titan Guy Kawasaki told Brian about his new book, ‘Think Remarkable,’ and outlined the three traits that all successful people share. Here are some of the top takeaways:
A growth mindset
Guy believes there’s a big distinction between people who have a growth mindset and people who have a fixed mindset. Some people never try anything new because they’re too fearful. Or, they might already be successful and they don’t want to risk their carefully crafted image by putting themselves out there, risking failure and being scrutinized by others. If you want to truly succeed, however, you have to continuously nurture a growth mindset. The most successful people firmly believe that they can learn new skills and they will actively seek to take on new challenges.
Grit
The flip side of a growth mindset is a grit mindset. If you have a growth mindset, you try new things, even when you don’t experience immediate success or it doesn’t come naturally to you. That’s where grit plays its part – you need grit to keep on pursuing when you’re experiencing difficulty and failure. In essence, having grit means that you happily persevere and continue doing something, even though it’s difficult. The most successful people have this quality in spades.
Grace
The final trait Guy says he’s noticed about remarkable people is that, towards the end of their careers, they believe that it’s no longer about them but about paying back society and helping the next generation. In the third part of life, the way they keep score drastically changes. It’s no longer about net worth, houses, or fame and glory; it’s all about legacy. The most successful people acknowledge that, no matter how much growth and grit they’ve had personally, other people have also supported them along the way. At this stage, they focus on paying back and helping others to succeed too.
These three pillars of success can help you to transform from average to exceptional, live the life you’re meant to and make a difference in the world. To learn more about creating a roadmap for living a remarkable life, listen to the latest episode of “It’s a Good Life”.
