During the challenges of COVID, many of us drifted into the kinds of bad habits that detrimentally affect our physical and mental well-being. In my brand-new “it’s a good life” podcast, I shared some of the more positive habits that are helping me to stay on track and live the good life. Here are some of the major takeaways:

Stay Connected

During lockdown, people became more isolated and cut off from others like never before. There’s a real difference between solitude and isolation – solitude replenishes, but isolation diminishes. The truth is, being apart from other people for prolonged periods is extremely stressful – we all do better when we’re together. This year, make the time and the effort to reach out and connect with others as much as possible, even online or over the telephone. Staying in touch will do you the world of good!

Keep a Journal

Journaling is an incredibly powerful tool that can help you with clear thinking. If you develop a habit of writing what’s on your mind and in your heart every day, you’ll be better able to really focus on your priorities and goals and put in place the steps you need to take to get you where you want to go. It can also be extremely helpful and enlightening to look back over old journals and see just how far you’ve come!

Stay Healthy

During lockdown, many of us naturally turned to comfort eating. This new year, refocus on your health. Schedule your workouts in advance so that you can’t have any excuse to skip a session. Keep the sweet treats in moderation, too, and soon you’ll be well on your way to a happier and healthier you.

To start a good habit, you have to introduce it to your conscious mind and do it so consistently that it then becomes formed in your unconscious mind. Now is the perfect time to build on your good habits and reduce or eradicate those that need to be eliminated. Then, not only will you enjoy a good year – you’ll have a good life, too!  To learn more, listen to the most recent episode of “it’s a good life.”
