In an increasingly complex world, we all need to narrow our focus and create more simplicity. I recently interviewed Jimmy Page about his book, “One Word That Will Change Your Life.” Jimmy explained how you can simplify your life and business by focusing on just one word for the entire year. Here’s how you can choose a word that will change everything:
Look In
Looking in is all about unplugging from the noise of life. Find a quiet spot where you can escape distraction, be contemplative and carve out some time. Then, ask yourself three simple questions: What do I need most? What’s in the way? What’s got to go? These three questions are the beginning of a process to uncover the one simple word you should focus on to bring the greatest positive change to your life.
Look Up
Regardless of their faith perspective, most people have an intuitive desire to uncover their highest calling. Looking up is about asking the One who created you what is planned for you. With belief that you’ll receive an answer, ask for the single word you should focus on this year to have the greatest positive impact on yourself and others. At the end of this discovery phase, you’ll have all the information you need to select your word for the year.
Look Out
The third step in this process is to look out. Once you discover your word for the year, it’s all about keeping it front and center and then living it out. Having an inner circle of people who believe in you and want the best for you is one of the keys to achieving success in this process. Together, you can work to keep your eyes on the vision that you have for your life.
The beauty of one word is that it creates a positive expectation that life is going to get better. Even if you struggle and suffer, you will learn some profound lessons throughout the year that will have a dramatic positive effect. In years to come, you’ll look back on these chapters and pinpoint the memories and the lessons that helped you to become a better person and, in turn, have a positive effect on others.
