Why is Goal Setting So Important?
In a competitive industry like real estate, having a well-defined plan is non-negotiable. Goal setting provides direction and purpose, helping agents stay focused amid market fluctuations and daily challenges. It transforms vague ambitions into actionable steps, bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
“People who set goals, achieve goals and do it in a timely manner are the people who are winning,” said Brian Buffini, the founder of Buffini & Company.
Start Small and Then Go Big and Bold!
In today’s world, it’s easy to get swept up into the negative chatter regarding the state of real estate. As a result, you may not know what to do next or conversely, you’re trying to do too much at once. The result is confusion and frustration.
When Buffini talks about goal setting, he advises that you start small and build your way up. Setting a goal to strive for in 10 days, for example, is achievable for most people. In doing so, it gives you that first taste of accomplishment. Once you’ve done that, you can set your goals for 10 months, then one year and then five years.
It’s important to write down your goals, Buffini said.
“It creates a picture in your mind and unlocks the power of your subconscious mind,” he explained. “And when you work on your goals, they go to work on you.”
You Don’t Have to Go It Alone
Sometimes you need an outside perspective to help you define what your goals are. This is where an experienced real estate coach can help you.
They’ll also help you determine if the goal is “important enough” or “defined enough” for you, according to Buffini Coach James Bell.
“Sometimes we don’t reach our goals because they are not realistic or ‘big enough’ for the sacrifice required,” he added.
A real estate coach will also be an important accountability partner along the way.
“My coach reminds me, “This is what you want to do. This is where you want to be,’” Buffini client Leticia Saunders said. “’Remember, you’re the one that wrote this down as your goal for this year, this month, this week.’ He keeps me focused.”
“Goal writing to me is everything. Every year to do your business plan, sit down with your coach, write your goals, figure out then how you’re going to obtain your goals, those daily activities, those weekly activities and successes that you have to make and then just keep track of them,” Buffini client Paul Yancey noted.
