There are always bumps and bruises on the pathway to success. We all trip and fall, often because of limiting beliefs, too much pride or even paralyzing fears that hold us back. In a recent episode of “It’s a Good Life,” recorded live at The Peak Experience, Joe Niego taught how you can overcome obstacles, unleash your potential and skip down the road to true success, just like the characters in “The Wizard of Oz.” Here are some of the top takeaways from that episode:
To make real progress on the road to success, you must:
1. Get Your Mindset Right, Like the Scarecrow
- Practice Self-Awareness
Becoming more self-aware means answering some hard questions. After an exchange or an interaction, reflect on the feedback you received. What would you do differently next time to learn more? If things went wrong, how can you make them right?
- Establish Empowering Beliefs
What you think really makes a difference. As Napoleon Hill once said, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” To experience true and lasting success, establish a belief system that focuses on growth.
- Repeat Powerful Affirmations
Affirmations are extremely powerful in nurturing a positive mindset. Try these:
- There’s no such thing as failure, only feedback.
- Feedback is my friend.
- Through hard work and effort, I can achieve anything.
- The cream always rises to the top.
- I will persist until I succeed.
2. Open Your Heart, Like The Tin Man
The heart can be set in two positions: open and closed. A closed heart means the road to success is closed. An open heart, on the other hand, means an open road to success. To keep your heart open, you must:
- Be Humble
To build more humility, you have to open your mind to learning in general, monitor pride in your interactions and always take full responsibility for your mistakes and errors. In all things, you must constantly try to take a position of humility.
- Be Honest
Being honest isn’t just about your everyday interactions with other people, it’s also about being honest with yourself and how you represent yourself. Are you being authentic?
- Be Vulnerable
Being vulnerable is about being comfortable in your own skin. You must cultivate the ability to put yourself out there and absorb the judgement, opinions and criticisms that come your way. Be transparent about who you are in your interactions, whether that means asking for help if you need it or apologizing when you’re wrong.
3. Have Courage, Like The Lion
The more you lean into courage, the more you get to where you want to go.
- Get Outside Your Comfort Zone
When you practice being courageous by getting outside of your comfort zone, you’re more apt to be vulnerable, honest and humble. Courage unleashes everything else!
- Recognize That Fear is Normal
Fears are totally normal – the problem is when they paralyze us. When you feel the fear, train yourself to go ahead and do it anyway.
- Just Do It. Just Do It Now. Just Do It Again.
When you are overcome with anxiety, repeat the sequence “Just do it. Just do it now. Just do it again,” and watch the fear melt away.
Just like the characters in “The Wizard of Oz,” you can navigate the road to success with focus and confidence. Listen to the latest episode of “It’s a Good Life” to learn more.
