Why is it that some people succeed, when others don’t? What ensures success and what hinders it? The truth is, success has specific ingredients. If you know what these are, you’ll achieve your goals and live the good life. Here’s what you need in your cocktail for success:
Humility
The first ingredient for success is humility. This isn’t always easy – humble pie is the pastry that’s never tasty! But when things go wrong, you have a decision to make – you can either get bitter or you can get better. We become who we are because of the adversities and the struggles we face. Humility is the foundation for all growth – when your life has been turned upside down it’s not the time to panic, it’s the time to grow.
Curiosity
If you want to succeed, you have to be curious. First, be curious about other people. Get folks talking about themselves and you’ll learn an enormous amount. Next, be curious about your own life. Why do you do the things that you do? What are your patterns, habits and routines? Do they contribute to or deplete your chances of success? Remember, a 1% change over the course of a year is a 38% improvement in performance. If you make small, incremental changes in your patterns, you’ll improve your health, finances, communication, relationships, business, work and life. Lastly, stay curious about your profession: keep learning, hone your skills and become a master of your craft!
The ability to receive help
The third ingredient in success is the ability to receive help. The most common reason we’re not open to accepting help is foolish pride – our ego gets in the way. The next is ignorance – we think we already know all we need to and that there’s nothing else to learn. The last is ‘do it myself’ thinking – we mistakenly believe we don’t need help and can go it alone. The fact is, when you have no accountability and you operate alone, you generally end up staying where you are while the world changes around you.
In today’s world, many people are drinking the cocktail of failure every day. The great news is that hope exists for everybody. It doesn’t matter what age you are or where you are in your life, if you drink the cocktail for success, you can turn things around and prevail at any age.
