In this fast-paced world, people are often looking for a quick fix for success. Instead of following the timeless principles that have worked for thousands of years, they want the easy solution. The truth is, as Og Mandino always taught, the true principles of success have never changed. They are not a secret and they’re not hidden – they are right under our noses, waiting to be rediscovered once more.
- Life is a game.
The most important secret of success is that life is a game. It’s precious and it’s beautiful but it’s a game and you don’t have any chance of winning unless you know the rules. When it comes to the game of life, most people are spectators. Instead of participating, they sit on the sidelines and watch the game being played – and won – by others. To be a pro at the game of life, you must define what winning is for you personally. Write goals for each of the five circles in your life: spiritual, relational, vocational, financial and personal. Where can you make even small changes? Any action you take in any one of the five circles will get you momentum – and momentum is a key ingredient for success.
- You must learn to live with failure.
If you want to succeed, you have to learn to live with failure. It’s an unavoidable fact of life that we all make mistakes. When you experience defeat, take some time to reflect on what went well, what didn’t and then, crucially, learn from your failings and don’t make the same mistake twice. If you embrace the seasons and the experiences of failure, you can turn them into a gift.
*Tip: Remember Og said, “I will persist until I succeed.”
- You never need to go it alone.
Success cannot be achieved alone. There’s no such thing as a self-made man or a self-made woman – all of us need help to achieve, to grow or to recover from a disaster. We want to be focused and determined, but we must acknowledge that we need help too. Are you receiving all the help that’s out there? Remember, no man or woman is an island; we don’t need to go it alone.
