Everyone is born with natural gifts and abilities, but it’s not always easy to identify them or utilize them properly. Here are some tips to help you recognize and maximize your gifts so that you can achieve phenomenal success in your life today:
People Tell You
Often, one of the biggest clues that you’re gifted in an area is when other people comment on your talent. Doing a task might come so naturally to you that you can’t understand why anyone would struggle with it or think that it’s difficult. Meanwhile, others are blown away by your incredible ability! Getting that outside perspective and feedback is a clear sign that you’re gifted in an area.
You Experience a Sense of Flow
Have you ever become so engrossed in a task that you lose all sense of time? When you’re deep in your gifts, the hours fly by and you have a sense of all-consuming flow. As author Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi wrote, “Flow is being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz.” If something feels easy and you’re experiencing the wonder of flow, you’re using your natural gifts.
You Enjoy It
When you’re trying to identify what you’re good at, chances are it’s something you really enjoy doing. It’s important to always listen to your internal voice and recognize when your tuning fork goes off. What has resonated with you since childhood? What do you love to do? To make the most of your gifts, you have to trust yourself!
Once you’ve identified your gifts and abilities, you need to get support and build on them. This way, they really get to shine and you can use them to help and serve other people. Remember – cultivate, honor and value your gifts, but don’t find your identity in them or take excess pride in them. Your gifts are not who you are, they’re only a part of you and what you’ve been given. As long as you honor a gift, you get to keep it, you get to keep using it and you get to keep giving it away.
