Whether you’re just starting out as an entrepreneur or are an experienced real estate agent, you may not think that you need or can afford the services of a business coach. The truth is, working with an experienced coach is one of the smartest financial moves you can make. A coach shares an outside perspective, proven strategies, market insights and serves as an accountability partner. And as thousands of Buffini Members will tell you, partnering with a coach was not only one of the most impactful decisions they made, but also the catalyst that enabled them to jumpstart and scale their businesses beyond what they imagined.
What Is a Business Coach?
It’s helpful to understand the differences between a coach, mentor, consultant, and teacher. While they are all similar, there are some important differences.
Business Coach
- Ask questions to draw out potential so that you can improve your performance.
- Know your vision and priorities.
- Have a curiosity about your goals.
- Cares about you fulfilling all the different parts of your life, not just business.
Teaching
- Focus on telling and transferring knowledge.
- Expert-focused.
- Analyzes data.
- Looks for the best answer.
Consultant
- A more specialized hands-on approach.
- Generally hired to solve a specific business challenge.
- Provides specific solutions for your business.
Mentor
- Shares information about their own experiences.
- Provides guidance and support.
- Acts as “sounding board.”
The Benefits of Business Coaching
Strategic Planning and Clarity
A real estate coach will help you create a strategic business plan, complete with goals, benchmarks, and metrics. This will help you know where you’re starting, where you want to be, and how to get there.
A coach starts from a point of curiosity and will help you answer questions such as:
- Where do I hope to be in 5 years? 10 years?
- What does success look like to me?
- What problems am I seeking to solve?
- If I achieve all my current goals, what are the next steps?
Gina Carter said her business coach acts as a “sounding board, asking the right questions.”
“She asks really poignant questions about specific things that I might have said,” Gina noted, “then makes me think about them a little bit differently, from a different perspective.
“She really helps to guide and assure me that I’m on the right path…that I’m doing the right things.”
Krystal Moore noted that working with a certified business coach is important.
“You really need an outside perspective and not just any outside perspective. Someone that take your business from one level to another,” she explained. “It really does pay off. They can talk to you about things that actually matter in your business, like lead generation. And if you’re struggling with something, it’s a game changer.”
Unlike most Buffini Members, Dr. Vivek Patel is not a real estate agent; he is a physician who owns a weight loss and wellness coaching company. He was inspired to join Buffini coaching after one of his patients raved about how the company helped her achieve impressive results.
“I’m a fundamental believer that we all need help. We all need support,” Vivek said. “My coach really helps me work through some of my challenges and obstacles.”
“They helped me to focus on where I put my time, energy and desire to really figure out the highest yield areas of my business and my life.”
Accountability
A great real estate coach practices “tough love.” They don’t let you get away with a lackluster attitude, procrastination, and avoidance tactics. They will offer support but also keep you accountable to make sure you are focused and on task.
They will be your biggest cheerleader but will also be frank with you when needed. Their focus is ensuring your focus is on the present. They are committed to helping you achieve your goals and provide a path towards becoming the best version of yourself.
Mary Dowd said that accountability to her coach is crucial to her success.
“My coach helps me with time management, organizing my day, and working with the Buffini system to make sure I am on the right track,” she explained.
Scaling Your Business
When a client and a coach click, and systems and advice are followed, the results can be extraordinary.
“Before I joined Buffini,” Paula Flores said. “I was doing just a couple transactions a year, and I’m a top producer in my office now.”
Matt Bergevin noted that in his first year in the business, he was chasing online leads and “racking up” credit card debt. A fellow agent urged him to check out Buffini.
“My first year in coaching, I sold 29 houses by myself,” he said.
Since then, his numbers have “gone into the 40s and 50s and higher, he added, and his income has “skyrocketed.”
Skill Development
As industries change, so do the necessary skills needed to stay competitive. Buffini coaches are constantly updating their training. In turn, they work with their clients to ensure that they are up to date as well. They will also recommend Buffini training programs as well as virtual and in person events that help Members improve their skills.
“She’s just helped me grow my business. She encourages and draws the things out of me that make me successful,” Kristi Andrew said of her coach. “She coaches me based on my strengths and weaknesses. I can honestly say the return on investment has been the biggest in my career so far.”
Roger Steinke said when he and his wife first started out as real estate professionals “we realized we were making the same rookie mistakes that every other real estate agent does when they start in real estate. And we needed somebody to guide us.”
The decision to work with a Buffini coach was the right next step.
“My coach is a person who stands outside of my business, looks into it, and sees where I’m making missteps,” he said. “They analyze things that you take for granted. They can see the things that you’re doing, and they can guide you; course correct you here and there and help you along the way.”
An Investment That Pays Off
Some real estate agents may feel the cost of coaching may be prohibitive, but as Audrey Bullock says, “The fees for coaching pay for themselves many times over.”
“Coaching is going to exponentially grow your finances and your bandwidth to navigate through our current real estate market,” she stressed. “It is so worth the investment of money and more so importantly, your time.”
Jeremy Johnson echoed that sentiment.
“I have noticed over time with Buffini coaching that the more I lean into my coach, the more I do what my coach says, the better my income is,” he said.
More Than Just Your Business
A great coach knows life is not just about your business – the other parts are just as important. If you don’t have all the other parts of your life in sync – spiritual, family, financial and personal – then your business is going to suffer.
“The right time is now,” she said. “Because you’re never going to get this time back to live the life you were meant to live.”
