Sending personal notes is the most effective and least expensive way to grow your business. For many, just putting pen to paper feels creative and satisfying — whether it’s a short message on a special card or a long, handwritten letter. For others, just the thought of putting pen to paper is intimidating and stressful especially during this global pandemic.

If you’re stumped on what to say, we have a few ideas. Use these examples as inspiration in your personal notes to clients, friends and family. Even though we’ve included the links to the resources mentioned, avoid the urge to email these messages. The power is in the physical note!

Thinking of You. Let someone know they are in your thoughts with a simple and succinct message.

What to Write:

  • “Just a quick note to let you know I am thinking of you! I just listened to a podcast episode that reminded me of you called, ‘Dare to be Great in the Middle of a Crisis.
  • I’ve always admired your ability to be calm when life seems crazy, and I think you’d enjoy this message. Take a listen — it’s on ‘It’s a Good Life’ and it is episode 204. I’d love to hear what you think.”

TIP: Let them know they can find the podcast online, or through a podcast app like Apple Podcasts, Spotify or Stitcher.

  • “I am keeping you and your family in my thoughts.
  • If you’re like me, the uncertainty is unnerving. You crossed my mind and I want to assure you that I am working and able to support you if you have any questions.
  • There is a ton of new information emerging about the real estate market, and I can help you navigate what’s true.”

Laugh or Smile: Everyone could use an extra reason to smile during these difficult times!

What to Write:

  • “With the news about COVID-19, I am locked in my house all day — it’s like a dream come true! Just kidding. Kind of.
  • On a serious note, I thought of you today and want to assure you that I am staying on top of market trends and happy to provide some clarity if you need it!
  • They say 2020 is a unique Leap Year! It had 29 days in February, 300 days in March and five years in April!
  • I am thinking of you and yours during these trying times. If you’ve been using this time to revisit family finances, there’s a great podcast you may enjoy. It’s It’s a Good Life, ‘Take Control of Your Financial Future With Chris Hogan #208.’
  • There’s great stuff in there. I’d love to hear what you think!”

Help or Support: Offer a specific good or service and start a conversation.

What to Write:

  • “You’ve been on my mind, and I was curious how you’re coping without your 3 p.m. ‘pick-me-up’! I did a quick search and found a Starbucks near you with an open drive-through!
  • I just sent you a digital gift card. Check your email and the next time you go out—enjoy a special treat on me.”
  • “How are you holding up? Last we spoke, you were thinking about listing your house. I know you may have fallen back in love with it since quarantine—but if not, let’s talk!
  • I have been staying on top of the real estate and lending markets and working with other clients in the same boat. A podcast I found especially inspiring was episode #212 of It’s a Good Life called ‘The Coming Rebound with David Stevens.”
  • It is a great look into what buyers and sellers can expect in the upcoming months. I’d love to help you explore timing and options.”

Getting started is the toughest part, so pull out your stash of blank notecards and dive right in!  Your handwritten notes have the power to keep you connected to your community and add light and support to someone’s day. Until then, stay safe and healthy.
