Summer is a great time to take stock and recommit to your real estate business. Shake things up by incorporating a mix of traditional methods as well as ones you might not have tried before.
“Follow traditions but don’t be afraid to try something new,” J’aime Nowak, Buffini & Company’s director of community development said. “Get out of your comfort zone. Embrace challenges and take a leap of faith!”
Here are some things to consider that will help you make this real estate selling season successful, productive and rejuvenating.
1. Put a Fun Spin on the Basics
The three basic tenets of working by referral for real estate are phone calls, hand-written, personal notes and expressing client appreciation with little gifts. There are lots of ways you can incorporate these tactics in with a fun, summer twist. Wish your clients a happy summer with a hand-written notecard that has a seasonal photo and a listing of local community celebrations. Call your clients to say hello and let them know about these activities as well. (You get bonus points if you are going to be sponsoring one of these events!). Stop by your clients’ home with a little gift.
Allison Oster, a real estate coach with Buffini & Company, also recommends sharing a fun client appreciation gift.
Some of her clients’ “tried and true” ideas include:
- Baseball-themed goodies (e.g. peanuts, popcorn, bubblegum, etc…).
- Condiment packs from Costco, Walmart, etc.
- Cute luggage tags for summer travels.
- Parent celebration/survival kits for kids getting out of school.
- Cookie-decorating kits for the kids, with a holiday or summer theme.
2. Participate in Community Events
Just about every community has a summer event of some sort, such as a celebration, parade, 5K or walkathon. There are also team sports for all ages, such as Little League® and Pickleball tournaments. If you contact the organizers and offer your financial support, such as a seasonal sponsorship or covering the costs for a portion of an event, you will be welcomed with open arms. These groups would love if you offered to volunteer at their events as well.
3. Throw a Party
There is still time to plan the perfect summer party for your real estate clients! Check out our party planning checklist here. It’s also fun to host impromptu get-togethers as well. If you have a pool, invite some clients over for a pool party/barbecue. If you play a sport such as golf or tennis, invite a group of real estate clients to join you. Or ask a group of clients to join you at a local ice cream shop — your treat!
Other ideas Oster’s clients have done include:
- Hosting a food truck at a free community concert.
- An outing to a major or minor league baseball game.
- A reverse gardening party (client can come receive or pick a plant for their garden).
4. Help Your Real Estate Buyers and Sellers Prepare for Fall
Summer can be a busy season because school is out. It can also be a time that families are actively house hunting so that they can have their kids settled in by the start of the new school year.
For your buyers, check to make sure they prepared with a preapproval. For sellers, go over any necessary repairs that they need to make and connect them with other professionals if needed.
Check in with your clients often to see if they need any assistance. Comprehensive planning early in the season will help alleviate stress and panic at the end of the summer.
5. Fill Your Mind with Inspiring Content
Sure, it can be fun to read a juicy beach novel or watch a reality show online. We all need downtime to decompress. On the other hand, reading inspirational books and listening to thought-provoking podcasts and webinars will help encourage and motivate you. Be sure to enjoy a mix of fun as well insightful content this summer.
6. Invest in Yourself with Training or Coaching
The real estate industry is changing rapidly. Signing up to work with a real estate agent coach or a training program will help you stay up to date on trends. Buffini & Company’s One2One Coaching™ will also ensure you have not only the basic skills but advanced ones that will help position you for the months ahead. As Brian Buffini says, “It’s a pro’s market.” Only those agents with the sharpest skills will be able to serve their clients effectively and in doing so, thrive in the months ahead.
