Selling real estate can take a toll on you mentally, emotionally and physically. Whether you’ve been in the business a week, a year or more than two decades, like me, I know you’ll agree—it can be a grind! And, when you feel like you’re grinding it out, day in and a day out, it can make you dull.

Hard work doesn’t have to be dull, especially when you infuse a bit of fun into it. If you’re having fun, you’ll be more productive. According to Dale Carnegie, “People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing.” That’s why I like to inject a little “fun serum” into my business.

Fun goals.

The first thing I do is establish fun goals. Now, I’ll go more into detail about goal setting in next month’s blog. I’ve learned over the years that spicing up my annual production goals with some mini-goals and challenges makes it more fun to work toward achieving my goals.

Plan fun breaks.

Many agents work, work, work and don’t take any breaks. Not only is this detrimental to your overall health, it can lead straight to burn out. Real estate can be intense, so to take some intensity out, I’ve learned to insert fun breaks into my day.

Fun breaks relieve stress, recharge your energy and allow your mind to refocus. As a result, you’ll be even more productive. I have a Nerf basketball rim hanging from my office door. During the day, I’ve been known to challenge fellow agents and my assistants to a shooting contest. Not only does it take the edge off the day, it builds camaraderie in the office as well.

Have fun with your cients.

Real estate is a social profession. If you’re like me, you like learning more about people—where they’re from, how they got to where they are, and what they want from life. When you take time to connect with your clients, you may be surprised by what you discover. And, learning more will help you find new ways to meet their needs and serve them. The next time you speak to your clients, ask them more about themselves with an open-ended question and remember to ask the “next” question.

Commit to having more fun in 2017 in your business. You might be surprised by how much it improves you production!

Joe
