Many of us enthusiastically set goals only to later give up in frustration because we believe we’re not making progress. It’s a pattern that often repeats time and time again but the good news is, it doesn’t have to be this way! Here are some strategies you can use to change direction, get unstuck and start to make phenomenal progress in every area of your life, today:

Identify where you’re bogged down
A great way to begin examining where you feel stuck is to reflect on the 5 Circles: spiritual, family, business, financial and personal. Generally, if you’re at survival mode in any one of these circles, it will affect all the others. For example, if you’re in a lot of debt or have problems paying bills, that issue will leak into every area of your life because it will impact your family and relationships. It’s the same with spiritual and physical health.

Make a list of everything you’ve tried
To move forward, make a list of everything you’ve already tried in order to change or improve. Do you jump into things too quickly and then run out of steam, for example? Maybe you get discouraged when you don’t progress as quickly as you’d like or you’re not providing yourself with the right support and encouragement in terms of the people you surround yourself with, the material you read or the podcasts you listen to. Once you lay out everything you’ve already tried, you’ll be able to identify your patterns and ultimately successfully readjust your course.

Understand the two ‘whys’
When you’re trying to get unstuck, you need to understand the two ‘whys’: Why you haven’t prevailed and why you need to. First, pinpoint patterns where you’ve become repeatedly stuck with goals and haven’t achieved a breakthrough. Next, look at your philosophy and mindset – attitude is key. Lastly, examine your environment, both past and present. What was your environment growing up and how has that influenced you? What about the environment you’re in now? Is that culture conducive to success? The final piece of the puzzle is to reflect on why you need to prevail. Dig deep and uncover what truly motivates you – when you can tap into that, making change will become much easier.

If you’re feeling stuck and bogged down in your life, now is the time to make a move forward. Pinpoint the areas you need to improve, identify your self-destructive patterns and take the time to really understand your whys. Then, immerse yourself in positive content, surround yourself with supportive and successful accountability partners and get yourself a good coach!
