As a business person, it’s highly likely that you battle with guilt every day. When you’re doing a great job serving your customers and meeting your business goals, you feel guilty for neglecting your friends and family. When you spend quality time with loved ones, you feel guilty for not doing more to serve your customers and build your business! This ongoing internal battle between your emotional side and your logical side is very real and it can be extremely challenging. The good news is that there is a way to live the good life while keeping your emotions and your logic in sync. Here’s how:

Keep balancing

We often think that we’ll finally ‘make it’ if we can just reach a certain destination: whether that’s achieving a particular business goal or simply getting to the end of a long week. However, the truth is far more complicated! In this life, there’s really no such thing as true balance – instead, life is a continuous balancing act that requires us to constantly adapt to our circumstances. If you can stay flexible and keep balancing, no matter what happens, you’ll be well on your way to living the good life.

Celebrate your achievements

Very often, we can get so busy setting and working towards our goals that we forget to recognize reaching them – a habit that ultimately leads to unhappiness and a sense of chronic discontentment. Every goal that you set and then accomplish needs to be celebrated, even in the smallest of ways. If you can reflect on the progress that you’ve made and acknowledge these sorts of small achievements, you will experience a profound sense of contentment, which will add even more juice to your success tank. As Oprah Winfrey once said, “Be thankful for what you have; you will end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”

Prioritize your health

Success requires huge effort, but you also have to be careful not to overdo it and burn yourself out. If you neglect your health, everything suffers. Take good care of your health, on the other hand, and you will have bags of energy and the sort of positive attitude that will propel you to even greater success. As Jim Rohn said, “Take care of your body. It’s the only place you live in.”

Life can feel like a constant tug of war between our emotional side and our logical side, but it is possible to achieve more of a balance between both and live the good life. To learn more, listen to the latest episode of “It’s a Good Life”.
